Work-Life Balance/FlexibilityThe ability for people to have flexibility at work is rapidly becoming a key factor in the attraction and retention of high calibre people and yet organisations are struggling with how to create opportunities for flexibility. Many organisations have developed polices and procedures but the heart of the issues lies in the attitudes and behaviours of leaders which often create subtle barriers to flexibility. Kalmor Consulting has deep expertise in creating Work-Life Balance/Flexibility. Through accessing deeply held beliefs, attitudes and concerns, we are able to have authentic discussions which increase people's confidence to address the issues. We also highlight common pitfalls and how to avoid these and some of the more effective practices, tools and techniques. The methods we use to address cultural change in this area are effective because they are challenging a thought-provoking while at the same time pragmatic and respectful. Our experience in flexible work practices has been gained in law, mining, retail, manufacturing and professional services. References are available on request. Karen Mitchell (Managing Director of Kalmor) devotes two chapters in her book, 'Careers and Motherhood, Challenges and Choices', to flexible work options and how to make them work. Kalmor people have advised organisations from industries including retail, petroleum, professional services, manufacturing, law and mining in the areas of cultural change associated with work/life benefits and flexible work options. |
